I'm holding the keys for Libby Hartle's work space, a wide open living room, and am looking at where Adam Simon's going to set his tent!

It's all about where people are going to stay today at Camp Pocket U. Tomorrow we'll figure out what people are going to eat and where their art is going to hang and what the video and library lounge will look like.

As I prepare for Camp Pocket U., and continue my transition into Executive Director of Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts (it's a mouthful, but I need the practice), and prepare for some upcoming shows; it's everything all at once. I work for an hour on Camp, draw out text pieces for an hour, run to the dentist, return for more Camp details, raise more money for Camp, and finally have a small epiphany about my work before running to get Grant at his camp, come home and serve organic Cheetos for dinner, give aforementioned child a sponge bath (kind of), read my own abridged version of Winnie the Pooh and pass out.

I gained more insight into the importance of taking care of details this morning on the number 2 train heading downtown to Wall Street at 9:00am when we lost a "valuable" lego piece and had to keep riding the train, missing our stop and eliciting help from business man, bringing them to their knees, in finding the lost piece! Never a dull moment, I decided to walk home from drop-off after that scramble. Now it time to turn my attention to cleaning the house for Kay's arrival and packing my bags.

When Pocket Utopia closed a year ago, Jason Andrew of Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts, told me about Rouses Point, New York, and his 5 summers of dance festivals there and the community in the North Country. Together, we came up with the idea for a summer camp, based on the Black Mountain College model, called Camp Pocket U. The camp will take place the last 2 weeks of July 2010. Everyone’s invited, but pre-registration is required at nortemaar.org or by email at ats@toast.net.

Inspired by a Joseph Beuys-type thinking of what artists are and Andrea Zittel's ongoing investigations into living and building upon Jen Dalton and William Powhida’s examinations of the way art is made and seen, Camp Pocket U., will offer free classes and evening salons. Some of the classes include: dance, drawing, ethics, knitting, mural making, and wordplay.

During the first week, starting Monday, July 19^th, Camp Pocket U., will offer free classes to children ages 7 to 12 years. On Wednesday, July 21^st there will be an evening celebration and exhibition opening (titled Ab hinc meaning from here on) featuring work by: Drew Ali, Sharon Butler, Elisabeth Condon, Diane Fine, Brece Honeycutt, Ellen Letcher, Matthew Miller, Lars Kremer, Kevin Regan, Adam Simon, Kay Thomas, and Brenda Zlamany.

Special guest lectures will be given by Jen Dalton and Rico Gatson on issues of identity and art, Kevin Regan, artist and founder of Famous Accountants, will gather campers nightly for inspirational, planetary, cosmic speeches and guided meditations, Jason Andrew will further elaborate on Fernand Léger’s life in Rouses Point, Julia Gleich will present on the connections between her unique vision of movement and the science of vectors, Kay Thomas will demonstrate orizomigami, suminagashi, and back by popular demand - milk resist painting.

Other special events will include a discussion on Art in the Blogosphere led by Sharon Butler, author Two Coats Paint, an evening with Klaus Ottmann, independent curator and writer, and a 100-yard dash and pancake breakfast sponsored by the multimedia financial-services company the Motley Fool. Information on all events will be posted on Norte Maar’s facebook page and on pocketutopia.com.

Travel by Amtrak to Rouses Point for $100/rt., stay at the only hotel for $75/a night, eat an awesome cheap grilled cheese at the Best Friends Diner and enjoy a communal supper at Jason’s place nightly. Come “camp” this summer, at Camp Pocket U!

Inspired by current DIY cultural trends worldwide artist Blanka Amezkua who recently moved from New York to Athens, Greece.

She will carry and place projects in different locations on a weekly basis in the streets of Athens beginning September 2010.

While the to-do list piles up for Camp Pocket U, I've been out developing my art-viewing skills and walking pace. I cruised Chelsea a couple of days ago and recommend that you too put your to-do list aside and go outside and look.

After that walk up to the Whitney and see the Marclay, the Burchfield, the Magid, and the performance show on the 2nd floor! The best thing about to-do lists is that they NEVER go away! So what if you have an outstanding to do, art can't wait!

I ate an amazing salad at wichcraft, went back to the studio for 2 cups of coffee before hitting an opening at Pavel Zoubok, going to a cocktail party and finally watching Work of Art in a crowded, unbelievably loud bar with some of the contestants. It's amazing I get anything done at all! Tomorrow I'm off to the country!

Free stuff...in Canog Park, CA!

Free Perchable Sculptures

I have 3 amazing sculptural perches in storage in Canoga Park. The storage is paid up, but I'm in New York City and don't have room to reinstallation these well-crafted, useable works of art. They're like freestanding tree houses. Might not be super safe around kids, I wouldn't want anyone falling off! They would be great in an office. A nice place to work on, whether that be writing or playing music, reading or hanging out. Please contact me and I can explain how to get them. They are disassembled but all the hardware is there and I can talk someone through the reinstall. Please view pictures and prepare to perch, get above it all. Thanks a lot!
