Norte Maar presents: Camp Pocket Utopia in Rouses Point, New York - July 21 – July 27, 2010

OPENING CEREMONY, Wednesday, July 21st 6:00 p.m.

Camp Pocket Utopia will take place the last 2 weeks of July 2010. Everyone’s invited!

The free arts camp for kids starts, Monday, July 19th for ages 7 to 12 years old.
Pre-registration is required at nortemaar.org or by email at ats@toast.net or calling
518-314-1516.

The following events are free and open to the public:

Wednesday, July 21st 6pm 20 Pratt Street:

“Ab hinc (from here on),” featuring artwork from local artists, including artists that will be in residence in Rouses Point, during the camp: Ali Della Bitta, Sharon Butler, Elisabeth Condon, Jennifer Dalton, Diane Fine, Drew Goerlitz, Brece Honeycutt, Andrew Hurst, Ellen Letcher, Matthew Miller, Lars Kremer, Kevin Regan, Jackie Sabourin, Adam Simon, Kay Thomas, and Brenda Zlamany. Special site-specific sculpture by Lars Kremer, image above.

Thursday, July 22nd 6pm 20 Pratt Street:
dinner (with a suggested donation)
and 1 Image, 1 Minute, featuring prominent people from the community present significant images. Watch while an image important to someone else becomes important to you through his or her unique interpretation.

In addition there will be performances by Julia Gleich, Chloƫ Bass, Andrew Hurst">, and Kevin Regan

Friday, July 23rd 7:30pm 20 Pratt Street:
Special evening lecture, “Chess and the artist,” Adam Simon. Enjoy a discussion on the game of chess and the life of an artist, for chess and non-chess players.

8:30pm Kevin Regan inspirational musings on John Lilly

Saturday, July 24th 10:30 am to 12:00 pm 20 Pratt Street:
Watch and work with Kay Thomas has she demonstrates Milk Resist painting with ink and rice paper.

6:00 pm Evening lecture with artist Ellen Letcher: "Found: sourcing images and the artist’s process of discovery"

9:00 pm Lecture with Austin Thomas, the artist in the world

Sunday, July 25th 9:30 am Community Wide Fun Run, 100 yard dash!

10:00 am Pancake Breakfast (donation suggestion) 20 Pratt Street

12:00 pm Kay Thomas demonstration of Orizomigami, dyed paper folding

2:00 pm Plein Air workshop with Brenda Zlamany, make art outdorrs, bring your own supplies

7:00 pm An Evening with Klaus Ottmann, independent curator and writer. He will discuss art and philosophy.

9:00 pm Lecture with Jason Andrew, Leger in Rouses Point

Monday, July 26th 10:30 am Suminagashi, the art of Japanese marbling

3:00 pm artist Brece Honeycutt discusses her sculptural knitting practice

7:00 pm Chloƫ Bass: a live performance and film screening on the nature of memory.

Camp Pocket U.'s free classes and evening salons are inspired by the beautiful surroundings of North County.
The a 100-yard dash and pancake breakfast is sponsored by the multimedia financial-services company the Motley Fool. The free arts camp for kids has been made possible made possible by generous donations from people everywhere!
