Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas. Today my thoughts are of gift economies. I listened to a great podcast about money, which included a discussion of gift economies and social business with Reverend Billy discussing sensuous economies and his gospel of no-shopping.

I think my work is about gift economy participation. To diverge a little bit from gifts but not entirely, I quote (below, written in all caps) from today's Tiffany's ad in the New York Times. Whether capitalism, "social capitalism," or gift economies, it's good to keep your options open.

HEAR THE HUSH ACROSS OUR CITY,
COZY FAMILIES, CHILDREN GIDDY,
LET PEACE AND JOY GUIDE OUR WAY
ON THIS MERRY CHRISTMAS DAY
